the musician's new song is a celebration of friendship & love
sometimes inspiration strikes in the middle of the night; and when that happens, good company is all you need to create magic. as a matter of fact, that’s the winning formula in singer-songwriter stella lefty’s case.
as the los angeles-based musician said on instagram, “nothing is better than writing with your friends.” her adorable new single is a testament to that.
co-penned by fellow rising stars (and, most importantly, actual mates of lefty’s) Grace Enger and Sadie Jean, ‘thinking ’bout you’ possesses the type of loving, carefree affection that only ever exists within a tight-knit friendship group. evidently, it didn’t take long for the rest of the world to fall in love with the song either. weeks before it was finished, in fact.
when lefty first started teasing the track’s demo on social media, videos of herself and enger singing along to one another skyrocketed to millions of views in almost no time.
more than that, a flurry of comments such as “i find myself walking around my house singing this i need it” and “the harmonies are scratching my brain in the right way” laid the groundwork for the forthcoming single to become the sincere celebration of love it now is.

while ‘thinking ’bout you’ draws inspiration from the friends-to-lovers trope lyrically, its endearing charm undeniably stems from a rather platonic connection, which finds a couple of friends constantly striking sparks off each other – all in the backdrop of a blissfully mellow production and twangy guitar melodies. lefty and enger’s vocals blend beautifully in the chorus, giving the listener a gentle nudge to join in on the fun and harmonise with them.
it might be the first week of january, but ‘thinking ’bout you’ is already shaping up to be one of our favourite releases this year.
