as pop princess zara larsson once said, "boots!"

we might be a bit late to board the boots train – or, in this case, the bus to Parris Island – but better late than never, right? as we’re (very impatiently!) waiting for some good news regarding a potential second series, we’ve decided to try and assign a pop song to each of the main characters from netflix’s latest dramedy.

disclaimer: you’ll notice that some of these take inspiration from specific storylines, whereas others are based on vibes only. at the end of the day, it’s just a fun little list we’ve come up with – and we’d love to hear your take on this on social media.

cope → lorde, ‘buzzcut season’

a farewell to dwindling teenage innocence in music form – it fits cope’s story perfectly.

seargent sullivan → katy perry, ‘the one that got away’

for obvious reasons. yep, this one hurts. a lot.

McAffey → Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’

a track which accurately captures mcaffey’s determination to succeed no matter what.

seargent mcKinnon survivor, ‘eye of the tiger’

while it might not be a pop song in the traditional sense, this timeless banger features the type of inspirational quality that mckinnon tried to instill into the recruits. ‘die with a smile’ by bruno mars and lady gaga would also work really well here.

santos → destiny’s child, ‘survivor’

‘survivor’ is hands down one of the greatest songs about not giving up – a fitting choice for an excellent squad leader.

hicks → nicki minaj, ‘pound the alarm’

a song to match his energy.

slovacek → The Weeknd, ‘starboy’

slovacek’s complex nature is often fuelled by his desire to be the best; ‘starboy’ is the type of song he’d definitely find himself relating to.

nash charli xcx, ‘track 10’

the call is coming from inside the house. safe to say we didn’t see that diary plot twist coming.

ochoa → olivia rodrigo, ‘traitor’

need we say more? what gloria did was simply unacceptable – ochoa deserved so much more.

jones → ariana grande, ‘bad idea’

a lighthearted take on the complicated dynamic between him and cope… and, well, sullivan.

bowman, john → natasha bedingfield, ‘unwritten’

a sweet sense of escapism and encouragement fpr a truly underrated character.

bowman, cody → taylor swift, ‘father figure’

might be a bit too on the nose, but it works nevertheless.

seargent howitt → pitbull, ‘hotel room service’

you can just tell this man would love pitbull.
