the la-based musician rethinks love with a cinematic, emo-tinged debut album
a person’s twenties can be quite tricky to navigate at times, and myah knows it all too well. the la-based musician taps into the growing pains for the release of her debut album, i don’t know what i’m feeling.
the alt-pop project spans seventeen track that explore falling in love, heartbreak, and the space that exists between the two.
“It touches on the crisis you experience as you start to get older and realize that romance and love aren’t what you’ve been told your whole life,” myah sais. “It’s toxic and devastating, and confusing; it can feel like you’re on top of the world one day and then like your whole world is falling apart the next.”
to celebrate the release of i don’t know what i’m feeling, myah has listed out the five things that inspire her the most.
check ’em out below.
My Grandmother’s Ring
This ring belonged to my grandmother on my mom’s side, and each gem is the birthstone of her kids. I’ve always loved jewelry like that, I feel like it means so much. I’ve worn it every day for about ten years now,ย and when I look at it, I think of my mom and her family, and what it means to be carrying a legacy. I’m so proud to be my mother’s daughter, and it reminds me of my dreams and everything she’s done to help me chase them.ย

My Childhood Hippo
My dad gave me this hippo when I was a child; he brought it back from London. I remember staring at it and dreaming of the world beyond my bedroom,ย the idea that I could one day travel the world and be inspired by whatever is out there.
It reminds me of the kind of kid I was, always daydreaming, and I try to honor that now in my adult lifeย too.ย
My First Electric Guitar
This is the first electric guitar I’ve ever owned. It’s nothing fancy, but I love electric guitar and always wanted to play it, so when I got one as an adult I was so excited I couldn’t contain myself. I don’t love playing acoustic guitar and I don’t get the same enjoyment from it as I do with the electric.
I wrote my album on this guitar and so many other songs, it feels like without it, I would’ve never found my sound as an artist.

glitter
Glitter is a core part of my aesthetic and identity. My adult life has been marked by me wearing glitter eye make-up, and even on the bad days, when I put glitter on it makes me feel like me. I feel like when I look at it, I am reminded of who I am and how I want to be perceived.ย
A Collection of Essays byย Andrรฉ Bazin
I first encountered Andrรฉ Bazin while I was in film school, and his essays were very impactful to me. He championed the idea of the auteur, and that belief shaped how I see not just cinema, but music too. His writings and the French New Wave inform how I approach all art, and when I read these essays or am reminded of them, I feel so motivated to be inspiring in the way that they were.
I speak conversational French, and whenever I’m in Paris, my favorite thing to do is to browse theย bouquinistes. When I saw these essays, I bought them right away.
