Don’t get swept up, Just go with the flow of this list

Water types are the most common type in the pokémon series. so, just like in real life, it’s been tough picking the right fish in the sea, and it has felt like I could drown in the amount of choices available.

But I have filtered through every pokémon, and here are some of my favourite water types, ranked.

#10 Palafin

water type

Just when you feel as though all is lost and all you’ve got left is a little dolphin that doesn’t do much apart from splash some water before retreating… BAM! Palafin emerges standing proud and ready to sweep the entire enemy team.

my favourite thing about Palafin is the inherent comeback story and suit-up sequence every time you use it.

#9 jellicent

water/ghost type

Stark design differences between pokémon of the same species are always intriguing to me, and make me feel as though I have to catch both to make the set. In these situations, I also end up picking a favourite and then hiding the other in the box to gather dust.

the male Jellicent has this big moustache that makes it seem like such a distinguished gentleman – and who wouldn’t want to add a bit of class to their team?

#8 Seismitoad

water/ground type

Do I like frogs or toads? No, I was actually scared of them for most of my younger years after finding one in my boot as a child.

however, Seismitoad fit perfectly in my team during pokémon white. Also, it always felt like cheating to have a water type immune to electric attacks.

Either way, this toad has redeemed its species in my eyes.

#7 Wailord

water type

If you think of a big Pokémon, there’s only one that comes to mind.

it’s so ridiculously large that most games don’t do it justice. but ever since the 3D games have come out, one of the first things I want to see when i start a new game is how big Wailord will be – and then I laugh every time I see how ridiculous it is compared to the trainers.

#6 slowking

water/Psychic type

I always feel happy whenever I see Slowking’s blank face and smile blissfully unaware of what’s clamping down on its head.

it has the combination of two of my favourite types. so, his royal highness the Slow king was guaranteed a spot. Or maybe I like it because we have a similar mental capacity.

#5 SWANNA

water/flying type

Swanna is an elegant pokémon, as well as a reminder of spending time on the rivers and seeing Swans float by.

Swanna also has a great hidden ability called hydration, which means that any status condition gets cured in the rain – if it lived in the uk, it’d be healed constantly.

#4 spheal

water/ice type

Who could possibly not fall for a little ball with flippers and a cute smile? Spheal is perfect in every way, especially how it has to roll around to move.

I also like to use its entire evolution line, although none compare to the cuteness of Spheal – and even as I use Walrein, I remember the sweet pup it was. They always grow up too fast.

#3 milotic

water type

Milotic is such a splendid, serene, and stunning serpent. It is not the easiest to get with Feebas being very rare to find in most games, But finally getting it to evolve to Milotic makes you feel as though you’re living through the ugly duckling story.

It also Helps that Milotic is as powerful as it is beautiful.

#2 blastoise

water type

what an icon of a turtle. this was my partner in my first-ever pokémon game, and nothing can ever replace that.

Blastoise has such a classic design – and who wouldn’t choose a turtle combined with a tank?

No matter what game Blastoise is in, I’ll find a way to pick him again.

#1 piplup

water type

I have a habit of always choosing water types; also, Penguins are one of my favourite animals. Put that together and you get the absolute pinnacle of pokémon design (to me).

It looks so dapper as though it’s in a tux, and its sweet little eyes just make it irresistible.

Along with all these pros, it also works very nicely in the start of the Diamond and Pearl games, making your early game much easier.
