yep, you heard that right! pinkpantheress has just released the official music video for ‘romeo’ – arguably one of the best tracks off her latest mixtape, fancy that.
for those who follow the brit star closely on social media, the music video might not be that much of a surprise drop. remember that viral chess post from a few weeks ago? no? well, let me rejig your memory then.
and it might seem like this was mere promo… but you’d be wrong!
the filming for this music video took place at an actual competitive chess tournament in south london. don’t believe me? well, make sure to read the disclaimer at the start of the video – that should hopefully be enough to convince you.
and to make things even more fun, PinkPantheress is (allegedly!) the niece of the five-time British Women’s Chess Champion Susan Lalic.
genius, really.

as to be expected, the music video (directed by iris luz) is filled with visual symbolism. and in true pinkpantheress fashion, there’s not a single dull moment.
from fleeting moments that showcase a number of competitors losing against the singer to tightly-choreographed dance sequences akin to an actual game of chess, it’s a visual odyssey that quickly arrives at its culmination point – the ultimate battle between pink and her love interest, a.k.a. romeo.
who wins in the end? i guess you’ll have to watch the music video to find out.
