nothing confusing about these psychic types
Psychic is my favourite type in the franchise – and for me, a playthrough isn’t complete without a psychic type on my team.
Now I know what you’re thinking (thanks to future sight), these Pokémon tend to be either the very best or the worst; but personally, i can’t get enough of their interesting designs, the backstories they come with, and how rare they often are in the games.
now prepare to be hypnotised by some of the coolest Pokémon out there. Here are some of my favourite psychic-type pokémon, ranked.

#10 exeggutor
psychic/grass type
What other Pokémon could make me think of both an omelette and a beach holiday at the same time?
Exeggutor, obviously – and that is even without the massive neck of the alolan form. I prefer the shorter palm trees, anyway.
Exeggutor is surprisingly versatile on a team, and can be both a powerhouse and a great supporter to the rest of your Pokémon.
#9 spoink
psychic type
Not much to say on this one other than it’s so cute, yet so tragic. I think its Pokédex entry terrified me as a child because it said that spoink would die if it stopped bouncing… so I wouldn’t let it faint, or I’d basically be killing it – this meant I was constantly using potions, or swapping it out, just to protect this little bouncy pig.

#8 UXIE
psychic type
Pokémon diamond and legends: arceus were such fun games, and the design of Uxie (out of the lake trio) was always the best in my opinion. i think it’s cool that it can fight with its eyes closed, exuding a higher power than the others.
#7 RALTS
psychic type
i adore the entire ralts line. there’s something exciting about finding this little kid after searching for ages that just puts it above its later evolutions for me.
Although hard to catch, you know the time and effort you put into this will be worth it, no matter what final evolution you choose.

#6 Metagross
Steel/Psychic type
This is where strength and looks really come together to make an all-round amazing Pokémon. A supercomputer on legs that can crush anyone you play against? Yes, please.
the shiny version is the best colour palette for any shiny Pokémon out there, and I also like the variance of having a more physical psychic type. this makes a massive difference in play style compared to other psychic types.
#5 LUGIA
psychic/flying type
This big, weird bird-slash-sea creature, which is also the main legendary in Pokémon silver and XD: gale of darkness, is an icon.
The design of the purple shadow lugia is sheer perfection, and, as a legendary, it always called to me more than Ho-oh – but perhaps that’s because I prefer the water, like lugia itself.

#4 XATU
psychic/flying type
I feel as though there’s a mystery surrounding Xatu –The Pokédex says it can look at both the future and the past at the same time.
it always really stood out to me in mystery dungeon, and xatu was a big part of some very emotional storyline moments in the game.
#3 Wobbuffet
psychic type
Wobuffet is on this list mainly due to the anime and its appearances alongside team rocket.
although hard to do, i’d make this blue punching bag work by predicting my opponents’ moves, and then countering them, which i took great satisfaction in.
No matter the challenge, I can’t stay angry at a silly face like this one

#2 ESPEON
psychic type
Very demure, very prim and proper. The way espeon just sits there and surveys the battle as it goes on – never rushing – is what I strive to be.
Espeon was my go-to when I couldn’t use Alakazam for teams, and its design will always draw me back to it.
#1 Alakazam
psychic type
alakazam has been my absolute favourite since Pokémon Blue, even though it was tough to get it with the trade evolution back then.
maybe it’s that Alakazam always played hard to get that made me want to have it on my team even more, or maybe it was its high speed and special attack allowing me to wipe out every opponent’s team without them touching me once.
Either way, this Pokémon will always be the first pick for me… if abra doesn’t teleport away.
