the heat of july brought us a bunch of exciting new releases. from the lead single of ruel’s upcoming sophomore album to rizzle kicks’ brilliant comeback, these are some of the best songs released this month.

breezy, fun pop? check.

songs to moshpit to? check.

strong contenders for song of the summer? check, check, check.

RUEL — I CAN DIE NOw

kicking off a brand-new era, ruel’s new single ‘i can die now’ is an exciting offering that further solidifies the aussie singer-songwriter as one to watch.

if he continues to build on this high-energy, emotionally charged sound, which fans first got a taste of via his debut album, 4th wall, then it’s safe to say that the twenty-two-year-old will be headlining venues twice the capacity of the o2 forum in kentish town.

Rizzle Kicks & Rachel Chinouriri — FOLLOW EXCITEMENT!

PEOPLE ON SOCIAL MEDIA (*cough cough* looking straight at ya, tiktok *Cough cough*) LIKE To complain that the song of the summer is nowhere to be found. they clearly haven’t listened to rizzle kicks’ latest drop, otherwise there would be less complainin’ and more dancin’ – simple as that.

the legendary brit duo joined forces with rachel chinouriri, a.k.a. the brightest rising star of the new generation, for the release of ‘follow excitement!’ – a groovy tune which proves that when it comes to music that not only feels straight-from-the-heart but also gets you off your feet, the British do it best.

CLAIRE ROSINKRANZ — JAYDEN

claire rosinkranz has a gift for writing lyrics that simply ring true. at absolutely no expense of originality, mind you.

the california-based musician takes ideas that might sound simple, just to then distort them with precise intention – to the point where it’s all outlandishly creative, undoubtedly gen-z, and genuinely exciting; anything but banal, really.

her latest single, the ever-so-glistering ‘jayden’, is a song by an artist who knows exactly where their strengths lie. it’s a work of art created by someone who is so unapologetically themselves that you quickly find yourself coming back for more.

LEAP — waste your love

who said that rock’n’roll is dead?! Leap might just be the ones to revive it, anyway.

the london-based rockers are edging closer to the release of their debut album, entropy, with ‘waste your love’ – a thrilling single from the forthcoming project (out october 3rd).

inspired by the break-up of their guitarist, the song encapsulates the healing power of surrounding yourself with fellow music lovers – a sense of freedom discovered not only by the band members themselves but also their fans.

“We were on tour at the time and there was something so magical about having the LEAP community around to help get him out of his head,” the band reveals. “that’s basically what LEAP has become for all of us, and for a lot of our fans it seems.”

alayna — Mother’s Mother

new zealand singer-songwriter alayna rounds off this month’s soundwave spotlight with ‘mother’s mother’ – a soulful and deeply personal track that honours the women in her life.

“As I evolve further into my womanhood, it’s become glaringly obvious to me that this beautiful life I get to live is largely because of all the decisions, sacrifices and courageous moves my lineage and ancestry have made,” she explains.

indeed, ‘mother’s mother’ is a masterfully crafted song filled with breezy vocals, captivating melodies, and intimate lyricism – a winning formula that turns an already mesmerising track into an essential listen.
