they might be fire-type, but they’re super cool

Although it’s as old as most other types, Fire feels like a classic – maybe it’s because fire-type pokémon are usually one of the starter options, or maybe there’s something special and primal about fire itself.

Fire typing has such a wide range to its designs, from smouldering to blistering hot (and all temperatures in-between).

So, get cosy around the fireplace and get your burn heals ready. Here are some of the best Fire-type pokémon, ranked.

#10 castform

fire type

Who wouldn’t love a little smiling sun on a cloud? castform has the amazing ability to change the weather, so that us Brits never run out of things to talk about.

#9 Ninetails

fire type

There is just an allure with Ninetails, it seems old and wise for some reason. maybe it’s from the mystery dungeon games, or maybe it’s just because it looks so much nicer than the foxes I see prowling the london streets.

#8 Entei

fire type

Entei is just regal and mysterious, and I’ve felt this way since I first saw its pixelated version in gold and silver. Also, i will like anything resembling a dog. and yes, I’m biased, but it’s on my list.

#7 Combusken

fire/fighting type

the entire Torchic line is a favourite of mine, but THIS fire chicken especially, mainly due to the anime, which I watched loads as a kid. SEEING Combusken tearing everything up always filled me with joy.

#6 Pyroar

normal/fire type

I love lions. They exude pride and power, and Pyroar definitely embodies both those qualities. It actually reminds me of Mufasa from the Lion King, which makes me feel sad knowing (spoiler alert, by the way) what happens in the film – and finding Pyroar on the rock in Scarlet and Violet adds to thAT.

#5 incineroar

dark/fire type

I’ve never personally been into Wrestling or anything, but I really appreciate the idea of a pokémon suplexing others. Also, i couldn’t get enough of using this in super smash bros.

#4 darmanitan

fire type

I always enjoy a pokémon that can change forms – and although I could never actually get it into this pokémon’s Zen mode without it dying, it didn’t stop me from trying every single time.

#3 Volcarona

bug/fire type

yet Another pokémon that I genuinely thought was a legendary when I first played through pokémon black and white. i remember battling it for ages, just to find out that it was only a bug – at least it has a presence that not many other bugs have.

#2 litwick

ghost/fire type

Everyone loves a candlelit dinner. Would the dinner be improved if the candle was actually a cute ghost with a face? I’m not sure, but it would definitely be a good talking point.

#1 arcanine

fire type

an absolute classic that was originally supposed to be a legendary, alongside the trio of birds. This good boi may not be able to fly with them, but I would happily take it on walks instead. Much easier to walk a dog than a bird anyway.
